SCIEX-Sponsored Award Recognizes Achievements in Digital Microfluidics

The 2019 SCIEX Microscale Separations, Innovations Medal and Award will be Presented to Dr. Aaron R. Wheeler at MSB 2019

Framingham, MASS — SCIEX a global leader in life science analytical technologies, has announced that the MSB Strategic Planning Committee selected Dr. Aaron R. Wheeler, Ph.D. as the recipient of the 2019 SCIEX Microscale Separations, Innovations Medal and Award, for pioneering research in the technology of microfluidics. The Medal Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, March 27 as part of a Special Award Plenary Session at the 35th International Symposium on Microscale Bioseparations (MSB 2019), an international event that brings together thought-leaders from both academic and industrial communities across the growing field of high-performance separation techniques.

The SCIEX Microscale Separations, Innovations Medal and Award (previously the Arnold O’ Beckman Award) recognizes an individual for remarkable career achievements, with particular consideration for the development of new methods, techniques and high-impact applications in the field of electro-driven separations.

Dr. Wheeler’s laboratory at the University of Toronto has been internationally recognized for its digital microfluidics projects. These have the capacity to transfer a wide range of established chemical and biochemical procedures to a nanoliter droplet format with the potential for high throughput analysis. A recent example of the impact of this work was the implementation of a compact and portable digital microfluidics system in a Kenyan refugee camp, to analyze blood for disease-specific antibodies.
