Answer

The sample matrices that can be supported on the system must correspond to one of the supported liquid classes. The liquid class is what we use to adapt the sound pulses to the kind of sample that is in the plate to ensure we get good droplet formation. The 2 liquid classes that are supported on the Echo MS System are AQ and SP. AQ is for aqueous buffers which have a surface tension that is higher than water and cause a shallowing of the meniscus relative to 100% water. SP is for aqueous buffers that contain surfactant which have a surface tension that is lower than water and causes a deepening of the meniscus relative to 100% water.
