Issue Description

The AB SCIEX Data Explorer® software (formerly Applied Biosystems Data Explorer software) is an embedded software that supports data processing on the 4800 MALDI TOF/TOF™ and the TOF/TOF™ 5800 Systems by opening the *.T2D files exported from a 4000 Series database. The Data Explorer software is compatible with the 4000 Series Explorer™ software and the TOF/TOF™ Series Explorer™ software and was recently rebranded from Applied Biosystems to AB SCIEX.

However, the rebranding process caused certain items in the Data Explorer Applications menu to become grayed out. The menu items—Periodic Table, Isotope Calculator, Elemental Composition and Elemental Targeting—are disabled and are showing as grayed out in the list of options.

Resolution

To resolve the issue of the applications menu items being grayed out after rebranding Data Explorer software version 3.7 or 4.11, an additional patch—Data Explorer Rebrand Patch.exe—must be installed (see link below).

This patch is to be used on systems where the TOF/TOF™ Series Explorer Software is being upgraded from version 4.0 to 4.1 or the 4000 Series Explorer™ software is being upgraded from version 3.5.x to 3.7. The patch adds the registry that is missing in the rebranded versions of Data Explorer software, and all other registry entries are left unchanged.

To install the patch, double-click on the Data Explorer Rebrand Patch.exe and then follow the instructions in the installation wizard. To verify that the patch was installed, select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. The list of currently installed programs should include Data Explorer Rebrand Patch. If the patch is deleted by clicking Change/Remove, the installation record will be deleted, but registry changes will remain in place.
