Answer

In order to maintain the ion spray voltage while operating the nano OptiFlow® Turbo V ion source, one option is to leave the mass spectrometer in Standby mode (LC pumps are turned off and some instrument voltages are turned off) at the end of a run. To ensure that the ion spray voltage is left on, navigate to the Queue Options in Analyst® Software and select the option Leave Mass Spec on in Standby.

Analyst TF software 1.8.1 will automatically terminate the ion voltage by default at the end of a run, which should not prevent the continued stable running of the nano OptiFlow source. The emitters on the OptiFlow source are tapered, and so they are not easily obstructed, even with the ion voltage off. The source performance should remain robust for 3-4 months.

The spray will remain on in manual tune mode, but if the LC pumps are turned off at the end of a run when the system goes into standby, there have not been any any issues with the OptFlow source.
