Hardware profile errors on X500 QTOF system resolved with driver upgrade

Answer

After upgrading SCIEX OS software on an X500 QTOF system and creating a new hardware profile, users may see an error message: Connection to the device failed. Confirm the device settings. Need to do auto configuration before doing test device. (See image below.)

To resolve this error, the xTDC4 driver needs to be updated on the acquisition PC (as described in the SCIEX OS installation guide.) For X500 QTOF systems, users can browse to the Drivers folder of the SCIEX OS software installation package, and then double-click on the xTDC4_driver_v1.1.0.exe. This will remove version 1.0.3 of the TDC4 driver and upgrade the driver to version 1.1.0.

In addition, the MS FW Updater utility must be run to update the mass spectrometer firmware and configuration tables, if required. Users can consult their SCIEX OS software installation guide for more information on how to update the firmware on their system.
